The project
A historic shell,
made entirely new.
An 1875 East Boston row house is reworked as three contemporary condominium homes while preserving the scale and rhythm of its established streetscape.
A carefully planned rear addition creates the space for modern layouts and a layered sequence of private outdoor areas. Inside, arched openings, tailored millwork, wide-plank floors, and restrained finishes bring a sense of calm to the compact urban site.

Urban infill
More space,
without losing context.
The rear addition and new outdoor spaces increase the building's usefulness while the street-facing row-house character remains a familiar part of Lexington Street.
The block respected
The front elevation holds the familiar proportions and material character of its nineteenth-century neighbors.
Plan expanded
A rear addition creates room for open living areas, comfortable bedrooms, and the performance expected of a new home.
Outdoor layers
Rear decks and a private roof deck give the three residences valuable open-air space within a dense neighborhood.
